The return

Revelation 1:7 is a foundational biblical prophecy declaring the triumphant, visible return of Jesus Christ to Earth. It proclaims that “every eye will see him”—including those who crucified him—and that all the nations of the world will mourn his return. [123]

The verse is widely interpreted by theologians to describe the Second Coming of Christ. It can be broken down into four key prophetic declarations: [12]

  • “He is coming with clouds”: This echoes Old Testament imagery (such as Daniel 7:13) and signifies divine majesty, power, and glory. [12345]
  • “Every eye will see him”: Unlike the secret or private events sometimes described in theological frameworks, thisreturn will be an unmistakable, globally visible event. [12]
  • “Even those who pierced him”: This points to the literal historical event of the crucifixion (John 19:34) and represents those who have historically opposed and rejected him. [1234]
  • “All tribes of the earth will mourn”: According to the Bible Exposition Commentary, this grief does not always imply repentance. Instead, it represents the global realization of His divine authority, resulting in wailing from those who missed the opportunity to believe. [1]
