Antediluvian clans battled in the context of

Vampire: The Masquerade lore, which includes tales of conflict between the founders of the vampire clans, known as Antediluvians. These battles are legendary, often involving their childer (progeny) and taking place during eras like the First City, the Second City, or the First Anarch Revolt. Examples include battles between Brujah and Ventrue in the Second City, the Lasombra and Tzimisce Antediluvians clashing during the First Anarch Revolt, and the Ravnos Antediluvian’s battles against infernal hordes in ancient India.

Key examples of battles between Antediluvian clans

This video explains the origins and battles of the Antediluvians in Vampire: The Masquerade:

  • The Second City: The Ventrue claim their founder was destroyed by the Brujah founder, Bruja, during this era.
  • The First Anarch Revolt:
    • The Lasombra founder was believed to have been destroyed, though this is disputed.
    • The Tzimisce founder fought in a great battle against the Anarchs but ultimately subdued and impersonated their leader, Lugoj.
  • Ancient India: The Ravnos founder, Zapathasura, led his clan in a climactic battle against the asuratizayya (infernal hordes) before falling into torpor.
  • The “Week of Nightmares”: The RavnosAntediluvian’s final death triggered a period of uncontrollable bloodlust among Ravnos vampires, causing widespread destruction within their own clan.

  • antediluvian clan founders have engaged in several significant conflicts, from ancient power struggles in the Second City to apocalyptic battles in modern nights. These “battles” range from ancient historical conflicts to subtle, ongoing power struggles known as the Jyhad.

    Ancient Conflicts and Rebellions
The earliest and most significant “battles” among the Antediluvians or their immediate childer include:
The Revolt Against the Second Generation: The Antediluvians (third generation) rose up and destroyed their sires (second generation) to establish their own city, a transgression for which Caine cursed them with clan weaknesses.
The Fall of the Second City: The city built by the third generation eventually fell into internal strife and rebellion. A key casualty was the founder of the Brujah clan, who was allegedly killed and diablerized by their own childe, Troile, leading to a schism within the clan.
The Baali Wars: The Salubri Antediluvian, Saulot, fought extensively to destroy the infernal Baali, a bloodline he inadvertently created.

    Notable Later Battles and Events
Conflicts continued throughout history, some of which are shrouded in myth and prophecy:
Saulot’s Diablerie: The Tzimisce-born mage, Tremere, diablerized the Salubri Antediluvian, Saulot, to become an Antediluvian themselves and elevate their followers to clan status. A centuries-long psychic battle for control of Tremere’s body ensued, which Saulot ultimately won.
The Anarch Revolt and Deceptions: During the Anarch Revolt, the Lasombra and Tzimisce Antediluvians deceived their childer into believing they had been destroyed through diablerie, when in fact they simply withdrew from plain sight.
The Week of Nightmares: The Antediluvian of the Ravnos clan, Zapathasura, awakened in India and engaged in an apocalyptic battle against the Technocracy (a group of powerful mages), surviving nuclear attacks and requiring a laser from the sun to seemingly destroy him. This battle caused a shared bloodlust among all Ravnos, leading them to frenzy and destroy each other.
Saulot vs. Tremere in Vienna: In a modern development, the location where Saulot had been in torpor within Tremere’s body (Vienna) was bombed by the Society of St. Leopold, a group of mortal hunters, in another major conflict.
These battles are often central to the metraplot of Vampire: The Masquerade, which revolves around the prophesied time of Gehenna, when the remaining Antediluvians are expected to rise and devour their descendants.
