Here’s a breakdown of the process:

1. 1. Force the King to an Edge:The queen and king work together to trap the opponent’s king. The queen will constantly move to check the king, forcing it towards the edge of the board. 
2. 2. King Support:The own king should be positioned near the queen, providing support and preventing the opponent’s king from escaping. 
3. 3. Queen Position:Once the opponent’s king is confined to a small area, typically a corner, the queen is positioned to deliver a checkmate. 
4. 4. Checkmate:The opponent’s king is in check, meaning it is under attack. If the opponent has no legal move to escape the check (move the king, block the attack, or capture the attacking piece), it is checkmate and the game is over. 

Example: 

Imagine the opponent’s king is on the A1 corner. The white king moves to C2. The queen can then move to B2, checking the black king. The black king is forced to move to A2. The white queen moves to B3, continuing to check the king. This process continues, forcing the black king to a smaller and smaller area until it is checkmated.
